6K officials to collect data for second agricultural census from April 1: NIS chief

The second decennial agricultural census is scheduled to start on April 1, and around 6,000 officials will be sent to survey and collect pertinent data from agricultural units across the country, according to senior Ministry of Planning official Hang Lina.

Of note, although the inaugural agricultural census was conducted in 2013, inter-censal agricultural surveys have been carried out each year between 2019 and 2022.

Lina, director-general of the ministry’s National Institute of Statistics (NIS), stressed the essential nature of the census to agricultural policy development and the establishment of principles of action towards improving the wellbeing of Cambodians.

She hopes that the 2023 edition will provide valuable input to ministries, institutions and other national organisation for the formulation of policies for agricultural development and a variety of development programmes.
