King Norodom Sihamoni presided over the November 4 opening ceremony of the Western grand causeway of Angkor Wat Temple.

The causeway was closed to the public for many years while repairs were carried out.

The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Hun Manet and former Prime Minister Sun Sen, as well as several other high-ranking officials and foreign diplomatic representatives.

The National APSARA Authority (ANA) announced that the causeway will be used as the entrance to the temple. The floating bridge, which has been in use since the closure of the causeway, will remain open and will be used as the exit.

The causeway was first closed in 2016, due to it weakened condition. The repairs and strengthening operations were carried out by the ANA, in collaboration with Japan’s

with Sophia University.
