Cambodian Scouts has requested the World Scout Committee for Asia-Pacific to continue providing technical assistance or scouting skills to create specialists who can develop youth policies and programmes in line with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport’s curriculum.

Kim Sethany, secretary of state of the ministry and vice-president of Cambodia Scouts, also urged the regional level to organise special training courses for scout leaders to receive two, three and four Wood Badge certificates in accordance with the World Scout Movement training framework.

“We seek cooperation and technical level meetings with professional officials of the Cambodia scouts to organise two-hour outdoor programmes per week to be included in the curriculum of public and private educational institutions,” she said.

In addition, Sethany urged the regional level scout movement to provide documents and scout experts to organise the first national scout music competition 2024 and produce scout songs that can be promoted via social media.

These requests were made during a meeting with the Asia Pacific Scout Region, which is part of the World Scout Bureau of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in Phnom Penh on August 24. The meeting was attended by the World Scout Bureau’s regional top heads including Somboon Bunyasiri, J.R.C. Pangilinan, Atty Wendal Avisado and Prassanna Shrivastava.

According to the Scout Cooperation Department, director of the Asia Pacific bureau Pangilinan pledged to study the requests and prepare a detailed programme on the technical content and requirements.

On August 1, Cambodia Scouts approved a five-year strategic plan (2023-2027) to promote its members’ activities in the community which are in line with UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. The activities enable members to actively participate in society building.

Cambodia Scout is an institution under the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and became a member of the World Scout Movement on July 1, 2008.
