BirdLife International Cambodia has begun conducting a census of sarus cranes at the end of each month from December 2021 to April 2022.

“Our team will organise the sarus crane census at the end of each month, from December to April,” BirdLife said in a Facebook post.

The Facebook post announced that on the evening of December 30 and the early morning of December 31, 2021, the team at BirdLife conducted a census of cranes at the Anlung Pring protected landscape in Kampot Province’s Kampong Trach district.

BirdLife called on the public to join the sarus crane conservation efforts and help save the birds from extinction.

On December 28, six sarus cranes returned to the Anlung Pring protected landscape following the rainy season rice harvest.

BirdLife has been working to conserve the population of the endangered cranes by monitoring their numbers and keeping an eye out for anything that poses a threat to the sarus crane population's overall health.
