The Ministry of Health late on March 27 announced that another Covid-19 patient had died while undergoing treatment at Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital in Phnom Penh, bringing the total to nine in just over a month.

The woman, identified as a 72-year-old resident of Phnom Penh's Russey Keo district, was first admitted to Calmette Hospital on the morning of March 27 but was then transferred to the Khmer-Soviet Friendship Hospital after her Covid-19 testing result came back positive.

The woman had acute respiratory distress syndrome and succumbed to the disease despite having been put on a ventilator.

The ministry confirmed the ninth Covid-19 fatality just hours after announcing that the death of another Covid-19 positive woman at Preah Sihanouk Provincial Referral Hospital on March 26 was due to hypovolemic shock and not from the novel coronavirus.
