Two schools and a pair of young environmental activists were presented with ASEAN eco-awards that recognised their contributions to education and environmental friendliness activities.

The Ministry of Environment announced that on August 24, Ok Sochenda, a creator of environmental education content, and Hem Sophem, a plastics student, were honoured with ASEAN Youth Eco-Champion awards.

Hun Sen Mittapheap High School in Preah Sihanouk province, represented by principal Chea Sam Oun, and Kampong Chhnang Municipal Model Primary School, represented by principal Nut Angkar, were presented with ASEAN Eco-School Awards.

“We are proud that they have been recognised regionally as role models for conducting environmental friendliness education and activities. They have contributed to raising awareness of the importance of environmental protection, biodiversity conservation and sustainable living, both domestically and throughout ASEAN,” it added.

Meas Chanthyda, undersecretary of state at the environment ministry, accompanied the participants to the August 23 awards ceremony in the Lao capital Vientiane.

This year marks the fourth ASEAN Eco-Workshop and the second ASEAN Youth Eco-champion awards. The awards are presented every four years.
