The Phnom Penh Municipal Administration has decided to reopen all state-run markets throughout the capital from May 24. However, improvised markets such as those near hospitals, factories or residential areas will remain closed until further notice.

In a directive dated May 20, municipal governor Khuong Sreng ordered that everyone abide by health measures. Customers are now allowed to sit eating inside food stall.

Everyone who enters the market must wear a mask or they will be fined between 200,000 and 1,000,000 riel ($50 and $250). Those caught gathering in the market will be fined at 200,000 riel.

Sreng instructed governors of the capital’s 14 districts to enforce this directive without any exception.
