China pledges 500,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses for Cambodia

The Chinese government has donated another 500,000 doses of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine for Cambodia with their shipment expected on August 23.

Pang Thearo, deputy chief of the ad hoc commission for Covid-19 vaccination at the Ministry of National Defense, said on August 20 that minister Tea Banh and Chinese ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian will go to receive the vaccines at Phnom Penh International Airport.

Or Vandine, Ministry of Health spokeswoman and head of the national Covid-19 vaccination committee, said Cambodia has procured vaccines, both through purchase and donation, from five sources – China, Japan, the US, the UK and through the World Health Organisation-led Covax Facility.

As of August 19, Cambodia had vaccinated 68.58 per cent of the country’s population of 16 million.
