The Cambodian Labour Confederation (CLC) and OXFAM jointly organised a forum on the“Laws and Policies of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) of Cambodia”.

The August 13 forum aimed to share new developments – and future plans – for the Kingdom’s social protection systems to all stakeholders.

In attendance were representatives of the Cambodian Federation of Employers and Business Associations (CAMFEBA), the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the NSSF and nearly 100 independent trade unions and associations, including the Federation of Independent Trade Unions.

A CLC press statement said the forum was also designed to complement the efforts of the NSSF to train and strengthen the knowledge of – and gather input from – the union leaders and workers when it comes to the protections and benefits they receive under the NSSF framework.

CLC president Ath Thorn said on August 14 that the forum was organised because he was concerned that many stakeholders were unaware of the fund’s latest policies and documents.

He explained that as key players, stakeholders should learn about the new developments, as well as challenges, related to the NSSF. This way, they could improve worker’s knowledge and also offer useful feedback to the NSFF for the future implementation of new policies.

He added that the forum highlighted the significant progress, developments and widening scope of the field of social security in Cambodia, as well as the benefits of the three current social security sectors: healthcare, occupational accident protection and pensions.
