Council of Ministers approve environment law draft update

The Council of Ministers – chaired by Prime Minister Hun Sen – approved a draft code of environment and natural resources law at its plenary session on April 28.

This draft code was drawn up to bring together the provisions of laws and legal letters in force involving the environment and natural resources by integrating, harmonising and modernising them in a realistic, consistent and comprehensive manner, said the council in a press release.

“We continued to kick-start the process of national development and the strengthening of the rule of law to a new stage on the path of green and sustainable development,” the sub-decree stated.

The press release said the draft code will further strengthen and improve the management of the environment, the protection, conservation and restoration of natural resources, biodiversity, ecosystem functions and sustainable living, as well as set common strategic directions for environmental protection and natural resource conservation.
