Cambodia Red Cross (CRC) staff took part in a mass blood donation on March 27 to
highlight the lack of blood supplies for transfusions. Numerous health issues
such as hemorrhagic dengue fever and landmine accidents require blood
transfusions to keep patients alive, but current donations meet only one-third
of the demand. CRC spokesperson Dominica Hanger said the mass donation was the
start of an ongoing initiative to encourage voluntary blood donation from all
sectors of society. CRC president Bun Rany Hun Sen was unable to attend.
