An Australian national known to his associates as “King Kong” was arrested on Friday morning, accused of selling drugs along Phnom Penh’s popular riverside, police said yesterday.

Alan Rolf Jensen, 49, was arrested by mixed authorities in his home after a month-long investigation and will face drug-dealing charges at Phnom Penh Municipal Court today, said Colonel Khen Sovann, deputy commander of Phnom Penh municipal police.

“He was an active drug distributor who frequently sold drugs to foreign people at guesthouses, nightclubs and restaurants along the riverside in Daun Pehn district,” he told the Post.

Jensen, Sovann added, spent the weekend in a cell at Prey Sar prison on the outskirts of the capital, where he could remain if formally charged today and ordered into pre-trial detention.

Jensen was arrested at his rental home in Daun Penh district, where police allegedly found marijuana, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

A military police officer in Daun Penh district – who asked not to be named – told the Post yesterday that police had been trailing Jensen for a month after suspecting him of dealing marijuana and methamphetine to tourists along the busy strip.

“He used to bring drugs to sell to other foreigners in bars and nightclubs here,” the officer said.
