Drug cases drop amid pandemic, minister says

Minister of Interior Sar Kheng said drug crimes have remarkably dropped as anti-drug police continue their operations despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking during the handover of 87 pickups to police from 23 provinces, Sar Kheng said authorities have cracked down on between 80 and 90 per cent of drugs offences since the pandemic began.

“We regard this as a success during the pandemic, though there remain criminals who take advantage during the pandemic to produce or import illegal drugs,” he said.

Kheng praised the police and relevant authorities for their commitment and willingness to combat drug-related crime.
