More than 10 hectares of forest near the Angkor Wat temple complex burned yesterday during a blaze in Siem Reap’s Norkor Thom commune.
Deputy director of the Authority of the Protection and Management of Angkor and the Region of Angkor, Sok Leakhena, said the fire spread to within seven kilometers of the Angkor Wat temples.
“It didn’t harm any of the villagers because we controlled the fire, however, it damaged some of their crops,” he said, adding that it took three hours and eight fire trucks to extinguish the blaze.
