Five injured in early morning Phnom Penh blaze

Five people sustained injuries in a fire that razed a house in Phsar Doeum Kor commune, of the capital's Tuol Kork district, in the early morning of February 5.

The fire broke out at 2:10am at house No 77D on Monireth Boulevard (Street 217).

A police report listed the fire's probable cause as "an electrical malfunction". A total of 33 fire engines were deployed to the scene, and the flames were put out by 3:30am.

The fire destroyed everything in the house and wrecked three motorbikes.

The local police bureau of fire prevention, fighting and rescue also refuted a media report by Amapapa News which claimed that an onlooker had died in the incident. Police called on the outlet to correct the article, stressing there there had been no fatalities.
