Guesthouse attack

A son of a Cambodian People’s Party lawmaker in Ratanakkiri province was repeatedly pistol-whipped by a bouncer at a guesthouse early Wednesday morning, police said.

Authorities said that Lam Vichhay, 26, got into an argument with Chim Bophan, 30, who works in security at the Boeng Kamsan Guesthouse and Restaurant in Banloung District commune.

Lam Vichhay is the son of CPP lawmaker Bou Lam.

“The victim was beaten by the suspect while he was trying to push a guesthouse room’s door open in order to meet a girl who stayed inside the room,” said Em Vun, Chief of Banloung District Police.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m.

“He was severely beaten by the suspect’s pistol many times on the back of his head,” Em Vun told the Post yesterday by telephone. He suggested that the two were both vying for the girl’s affections.

The beating caused Lam Vichhay to lose consciousness, and he passed out in the guesthouse.

“He was rescued by our police after police received a call from the guesthouse’s staff.”

The suspect escaped from the scene. The victim and his family could not be contacted for comments yesterday.
