Police have detained a suspect involved in snatching a handbag belonging to Mean Chey deputy district police chief Meng Vimeandara last month and will send him to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on Wednesday.

The suspect was identified as Morn Sam Nieng, 24. Phnom Penh Municipal police chief Sar Thet told The Post yesterday that the case had been investigated as a matter of urgency since the handbag contained a gun.

He said the items inside the snatched handbag included a gun which has since been returned to him, but about $500 is missing as the handbag was snatched almost a month ago.

Vimeandara said the handbag was snatched on August 13, Tonle Bassac commune, Chamkarmon district.
