Heroin smuggling

Border guards in southern Vietnam have broken up a network trafficking heroin from

Cambodia and arrested three couriers. AFP reported that a couple, Lam Van Banh and

his wife Lam Thi Ha, were arrested on May 28 in the border commune of Tay Ninh province

while delivering 30 kilograms of heroin to the house of Phan Nguyen Anh Thu. Thu

later confessed she ran the Vietnamese side of the operations for her Cambodian boyfriend

and had personally couriered drugs from Cambodia into Vietnam on 36 occasions since

mid-2001.
