Police have called in laypeople and monks at the Borom Niwes pagoda in Banteay Meanchey province’s Mongkol Borei district for questioning after an 82-year-old nun was beaten to death in her room on November 26.

The pagoda is located in Russey Krork commune’s Sala Deng village.

District police chief Sin Narak told The Post on November 30 that authorities had yet to determine the cause of death.

“I would like to inform you that the case is under investigation ... You can ask the deputy police chief in charge of this work,” Narak said.

Provincial deputy police chief Lou Chivoan said on November 30 that people in the pagoda have been called for questioning one by one.

“I can’t provide answers now as we are working to identify the killer and don’t have any results yet,” Chivoan said.

The victim, identified as Sao Set, was murdered around 6:30pm and discovered by a 29-year-old monk who heard the sound of the radio but did not see her.

He then summoned two monks to call the nun. When they reached her room, the nun was dead.
