Industry ministry, JICA sign water supply agreement

The Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) co-signed an agreement on “Project for Formulation of the Development Plan for Urban Water Supply” that will contribute to improving access to high-quality, safe, sustainable and affordable water in Cambodia.

The signing ceremony was held on January 12 with ministry secretary of state Oum Sotha and JICA chief representative Kamei Haruko in attendance at the ministry headquarters.

This is the fifth JICA technical cooperation project for the water supply sector since 2003. The expected goal of the project is to improve the capacity of the ministry to regulate and supervise the sector by formulating the urban water supply development guide, model provincial urban water supply development plan and model public waterworks master plan.

“The project is to enable the ministry to formulate the development guide and development plan in the sector through continuous capacity building,” said a joint press release.

The project is expected to start in the middle of 2023 in selected provinces.
