The Ministry of Interior held a February 2 consultative inter-ministerial meeting to discuss the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Cambodian and South Korean governments on cooperation to combat human trafficking and transnational crime.

The meeting was presided over by Chou Bun Eng – interior ministry secretary of state and permanent vice-chair of the National Committee for Counter Trafficking of Cambodia (NCCT). Joining her at the meeting were senior officials from relevant ministries and institutions, as well as specialists in the field.

She said the meeting has held to discuss the inputs and ideas of each of the government institutions that were involved in human trafficking and transnational crime.

She added that Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sar Kheng and Korean Deputy Minister of Justice Shin Jae-Hyun, had previously discussed the establishment of the MoU.

“The meeting participants deliberated over their relevant experiences and the key inputs from all the attendees will form the basis for determining the content of the MoU,” said Bun Eng.

Further meetings will be held to ensure a consensus is met.

Bun Eng advised the participants to prepare detailed data studies ahead of the next meeting.
