The joke’s on you
An arrest warrant is set to be issued for a popular Cambodian comedienne this week, after she failed to appear at court for a third time over fraud allegations.
Chuon Chan Ratana, also known as “Neang Kaay”, was summoned to Phnom Penh Municipal Court to clarify details about her case on Monday, but did not appear.
Deputy prosecutor Kry Sok Y said that she has been sued by Phnom Penh businessman Koam Chanmony over five luxury cars he rented to her. The cars are said to have disappeared after the comedienne allegedly rented them out to other customers.
“I will issue an arrest warrant for Neang Kaay this week in order for her to appear at the court to explain about her fraud case, due to the complaint of Koam Chanmony,” said prosecutor Kry Sok Y.
If she fails to appear, he added, Neang Kaay will be charged and arrested.
Choun Chan Ratana could not be reached for comment yesterday, but told The Post on April 4 that the reason she did not appear in court after a first summons was because she had been taking part in a Chinese funeral ceremony known as “Cheng Meng” with her family at a pagoda in Phnom Penh.
