OFFICIALS from the Khmer Rouge tribunal delivered copies of the court’s first verdict to officials at the Council of Ministers yesterday. About 500 government officials gathered at the Council of Ministers to watch a screening of a summary of Case 001, that of former S-21 prison chief Kaing Guek Eav, better known as Duch. Chheng Saroeurn, vice president of the Council of Ministers’ Council of Jurists, said the Duch verdict would provide lessons for Cambodian court officials and bolster efforts to reform the country’s judiciary.
