The opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party has asked the Ministry of Interior to investigate a death threat allegedly levelled at deputy party leader Kem Sokha via Facebook.
A letter sent to Interior Minister Sar Kheng on Friday from CNRP spokesman Yim Sovann says that a Facebook user called “Phaeng Vannak” threatened to shoot Sokha seven times, explaining in detail where each bullet would hit.
“The publication of this via Facebook is a threat against Kem Sokha’s life and a threat to other politicians,” Sovann wrote. “I would like excellency deputy prime minister [Sar Kheng] to please take action and investigation this threat to find the perpetrator and convict him.”
Both Kheng and Interior Ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak could not be reached yesterday, while National Police spokesman Kirth Chantharith declined to comment.
Sovann said yesterday that the CNRP was yet to receive a response from the ministry.
