Prime Minister Hun Sen said today that the possibility of enforcing a state of emergency is just 0.1 per cent due to Covid-19.

Speaking in a special press conference at Peace Palace today, Hun Sen said, however, that the law would nonetheless be enacted in preparation for any unforeseen and uncontrollable situation.

“When the situation cannot be controlled despite our appeals, we will enforce the state of emergency. To make it short, it will be enforced when we dont listen to the government's advise on containing Covid-19,” he stressed.

The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Tuesday passed the draft law on the state of emergency. It will be discussed by expert committees at parliament before it is sent to the Senate.

Hun Sen said a full plenary session of the National Assenbly will be held on Friday to pass it and it is likely to become law after the Khmer New Year.

The draft law consists of 5 chapters, and 11 articles.
