Meeting aims to make ASEAN ‘drug-free’

About 100 lawmakers and observers attended the eighth meeting of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly Fact-Finding Committee yesterday, to jointly combat the “drug menace” plaguing Southeast Asian countries to meet the goal of a “drug-free” region by 2015. The meeting, which will last three days, was opened by National Assembly President Heng Samrin, who said that the flow of opium and cocaine from Southeast Asia to Western countries had decreased, but the flow to developing countries had increased.
