The Ministry of Interior had requested that King Norodom Sihamoni pardon, or reduce prison sentences for, 432 inmates during the annual Water Festival next month, officials said yesterday. “We requested a pardon for 68 inmates and sentence reductions for 364 inmates,” Kim Sarin, director of the penalty deduction department at the ministry’s general department of prisons, said. Royal pardons are granted during three national holidays: Khmer New Year, Meak Bochea Day and the Water Festival.
