The Ministry of Women’s Affairs and other bodies on Sunday expressed concern about a possible rise in smoking among women. At a workshop to mark today’s World No Tobacco Day, Im Sither, secretary of state at the ministry, said advertising campaigns aimed at women could push up smoking rates and were an affront to the “dignity” of Cambodian women. Chork Rany Yel, a health coordinator for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency, said that 3.6 percent of Cambodian women smoke cigarettes and 17 percent chew tobacco.
