Sixteen Montagnard asylum seekers arrived in Phnom Penh on September 2 and were placed
under UNHCR protection while being interviewed to determine their refugee status.
The group, eight men, one woman, and seven children, were retrieved in Ratanakkiri
province. UNHCR has received reports of other asylum seekers who are hiding in the
jungle in Mondulkiri province. It has not yet received permission from the government
to investigate.
Including the new arrivals, there are 257 Montagnards under UNHCR protection in Cambodia.
