The Ministry of Post and Telecommunications has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to set up community technology centres in state high schools nationwide, aiming to further advance digital education.

Telecommunications minister Chea Vandeth and education minister Hang Chuon Naron witnessed the signing of the MoU on October 9.

The first of these technology depots was inaugurated on June 1 at Hun Sen High School in the Bati district of Takeo province. Plans are in place to open such workspaces in all high schools in the province by early November, before a nationwide rollout.

“To cultivate a government geared towards economy, society and digital citizens, these community technology centres are vital in promoting computer learning and fostering transformation across all sectors,” Vandeth stated.

Chuon Naron expressed his gratitude to the telecommunications ministry for proposing the idea of these facilities, which he believes will elevate digital literacy and skills, and the integration of educational technology.

“This MoU is crucial in achieving our goals . . . fuelling growth, maximising productivity and preparing the future citizens of Cambodia,” he said.

The ministry noted that the primary objective of these centres aligns with the initial phase of the Cambodia Digital Economy and Society Policy Framework 2021-2035 and the Cambodian Digital Government Policy 2022-2035.

The goals include fostering educational transformation, enhancing digital literacy and supporting the growth of digital human capital.
