Official: Cambodia has sufficient oxygen supplies

A senior Ministry of Health official said Cambodia is fully capable of supplying oxygen to Covid-19 patients in the country, although demands are currently increasing.

Health ministry secretary of state Ngov Kang cautioned, however, that public participation in implementing preventive measures is a must to avoid depleted supplies amid the ongoing pandemic, noting that Cambodia is still recording a high number of daily infections.

“To break the chain of transmission and avoid a shortage of oxygen, the public must join the government to prevent the virus spreading into community, starting with their family,” he said.

He noted that Cambodia currently has sufficient supplies of oxygen to provide for patients in general, not just those infected with Covid-19.

“Currently, there is a high demand for oxygen, but in a situation that is under control. But having said that, we urge our people to maintain vigilance and protect themselves from the disease,” he said.

Cambodia has recently donated 100 oxygen concentrators to Vietnam to assist the neighbouring country as it grapples with ongoing outbreaks of Covid-19.
