Banteay Meanchey provincial police are searching for two people suspected of being the ringleaders behind the illegal trafficking of people into Thailand in search of work.

The hunt came after four migrants were detained for questioning on April 17.

The National Police said a joint task force from Border Police Unit 911, Infantry Brigade Unit 51 and Poipet town Military Police caught the four while they were preparing to cross into Thailand though Poipet commune’s Prey Prick village. They said the four were likely persuaded by migrant-brokers.

Ros Piseth, chief of Border Police Unit 911, said the four, all residents of Poipet commune, had been sent into a quarantine centre at Nimith High School in Poipet town’s Nimith commune and for Covid-19 testing.
