Police seize firearms, 60kg of illegal drugs

The Phnom Penh Municipal Court is questioning four men – one Cambodian and three Thais – in connection with the trafficking of nearly 65kg of drugs and illegal possession of three firearms.

Court spokesman Plang Sophal told The Post on March 7 that the prosecutor would continue to question the four suspects, although a translator would be required.

“I will provide additional information when the prosecution decides on a course of action,” he said.

In Song, deputy director of the Ministry of Interior’s anti-drug department, said the four suspects were sent to court on March 7.

He identified the Cambodian suspect as Tin Ty, 31, and his Thai co-conspirators as Dav De Dan, 22, Vanchai Loeung Pkouch, 33, and Mong Sokhorm, 41.

According to a March 7 anti-drug department report on the operation, on the afternoon of March 3 the department – in cooperation with deputy municipal court prosecutor Say Nora – swooped down on the gang in two locations.

The first target was Tin Ty, who was arrested at a gas station in Chaom Chao 3 communes’s Champou Van village of Phnom Penh’s Por Senchey district. Officers seized more than 60kg of drugs.

Shortly after, officers stopped two vehicles in the Borey Piphop Thmey gated community in Kambol district and commune. The three Thai men were taken into custody with three firearms – two pistols and a rifle – confiscated.
