Bun Sokha, an aide to the prime minister and deputy chief of staff of his bodyguard unit, has been sacked in the wake of last month’s vicious beating of four men in a Koh Kong province hotel.

“Bun Sokha must be fired [as] assistant of Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia,” states a Royal Decree signed by acting head of state Chea Sim on April 26 and obtained by the Post yesterday.

Bun Sokha and three underlings – two bodyguards and a driver – are accused of beating the four men on April 22, an event captured by the Koh Kong City hotel’s security camera and subsequently uploaded to the website YouTube.

The prosecution charged the quartet with intentional violence and sent them to prison to await trial on April 25.

Each of the four victims have since accepted compensation ranging from $3,000 to $5,000 from the accused.

Bun Sokha’s defence lawyer previously told the Post that he planned to seek bail, but as of yesterday had not done so.
