Former Khmer Rouge commander Chhouk Rin has been summoned to appear in the Appeal
Court on August 28. Rin will stand trial for his involvement in the 1994 ambush of
a Sihanoukville bound train which resulted in the deaths of 13 Cambodians and three
Western backpackers. Rin was acquitted of the charges on July 18, 2000 on the basis
of a KR amnesty. The decision was widely criticized at the time.
