The Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) branch of western Battambang province’s Kamrieng district has launched a campaign to restore family links, prevent the spread of Covid-19, and ensure the safe migration of residents of local communities to prevent them from falling into the hands of unscrupulous brokers.

Speaking at an event in Kambrang village of Kamrieng’s Ta Krei commune marking the launch, officials stressed that the lack of available information for potential migrants remains a challenge.

This vulnerability has prompted nefarious actors to take advantage of aspiring migrants – particularly those looking for more gainful employment than is available locally – with many becoming victims of human trafficking.

The campaign aims to fill that information gap, educating both potential migrants and their families of the risks involved, as well as offering safety prevention tips and the real-life experiences of those who have migrated before.

The CRC team distributed leaflets and other materials to participants at the event.
