Major General Long Thaem, the adopted son of former Khmer Rouge Foreign Minister
Ieng Sary, died in a traffic accident in Anlong Veng on May 4. Thaem, 45, was a close
aide and advisor to Sary and headed his Fourth Army faction following Sary's split
with Pol Pot. At the time of his death he was an adviser to Co-Minister of Defense
Tea Banh. Another RCAF officer was killed and a civilian injured in the accident.
