Siem Reap provincial officials on Tuesday arrested four journalists accused of extorting money from villagers in Chi Kraeng district’s Khvav commune in exchange for not printing articles about illegal logging in the area. District police Chief Touch Sakal said villagers “bargained” the extortion fee down from US$50 to $7 before reporting the men to police. Provincial court prosecutor Ty Soveinthal said any charges against the four were likely to be “minor”.
