Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhonn will lead a delegation on an official visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK) on September 6-8, during which he will hold talks with his Korean counterpart Chung Eui-yong.

In a press statement on September 2, the ministry said Sokhon’s meeting with Chung will touch on bilateral cooperation in defence, development, economy, science and technology, among others.

“[The issues] will be discussed in order to further strengthen and expand the existing good relations between the two countries. Views on regional and international issues of common interests will also be exchanged,” the ministry said.

On September 8, Sokhonn and Chung will also co-chair the 11th Mekong-ROK Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in-person. The foreign ministers of other Mekong countries – Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam – will also attend via video conference.

The Mekong-ROK Foreign Ministers' Meeting will review the progress of the cooperation, the mechanism set out in the Plan of Action (2021-2025), private sector engagement, and the future direction of the mechanism.

A joint commitment to addressing global public health threats posed by the Covid-19 pandemic will also be on the meeting agenda, the ministry said.
