Authorities in Banteay Meanchey province’s Phnom Srok and Svay Chek districts are continuing to repair the houses of more than 100 families, after heavy rain and strong winds on the evening of March 27 caused injuries to at least six people and damaged 116 houses.

Phnom Srok district police chief Pei Kimhak told The Post that storms hit Poy Char commune’s Techo Santepheap village, where six people suffered serious and minor injuries due to houses collapsing. A total of 105 houses were damaged, with 39 completely destroyed.

“After the rain and wind subsided, police officers transferred the victims to hospital for treatment and helped to dismantle the damaged houses and recover the timber beams and roofing iron from them. On Monday morning, we repaired more than 20 houses,” he said.

He said his team would continue working until all families had safe, secure shelter.

Svay Chek district governor Loeung Sopheak told The Post that the rain and gusting winds of the thunderstorms damaged 11 houses in Phkoam commune. Two homes collapsed completely and nine others suffered damage to roofs and walls, although fortunately no one was injured .

“On Monday morning, I led the district Unity Command to check on residents and carry out repairs for the victims,” he said.

In Kampong Chhnang province, Cholsa commune authorities in Cholkiri district also reported extensive damage to nine homes on the same night.
