The General Department of Immigration (GDI) held a meeting on December 23 to prepare a training programme on the installation and management of X-ray inspection equipment at 11 international border gates to more effectively identify and prevent the import of illegal drugs and weapons.

The meeting was led by Lieutenant General Long Habana, deputy general-director of the GDI, under the Ministry of Interior, with the participation of immigration officials at international airports and border checkpoints, and other relevant authorities.

The Japanese government has pledged to provide the GDI with the equipment, in the interest of maintaining security and safety, especially for the 40th ASEAN Summit which is slated to be chaired by Cambodia next year.

The department expects the equipment to arrive early next year.

Habana urged all pertinent officials to handle the machinery with care to ensure a long life.
