Two girls drowned while playing in a creek without asking permission from their parents on Sunday afternoon in Banteay Meanchey province’s Svay Chek district. Sy Dy, Svay Chek district police chief, said yesterday that Srea Kumpheak, 12, and her neighbour Korn Chhingchhong, aged nine, went to play in the creek but later drowned because they did couldn’t swim. “Their parents had lost track of them for about three hours and then they found the girls’ bodies in the creek, but they had died already,” he said, adding that no foul play was suspected.
