The Oddar Meanchey provincial Disaster Management Committee announced that one person was injured and 80 homes were damaged – along with the loss of the roof of a school – by heavy rain and strong winds on the evening of March 5.
Committee director Chea Piseth told The Post that disaster response teams – with the participation of the provincial administration – had immediately begun to repair the damage.
“Our teams are working to repair the homes and school, so that people can return to their normal lives and students can safely return to school,” he said.
Piseth added that in addition to helping to repair the damage, teams also delivered food to the victims. Each family received 25kg of rice, one box of noodles and soy and fish sauce to ease the burden of having survived such an emergency.
Konkriel commune chief Loeung Noch told The Post that heavy rain and strong winds had damaged 77 houses in the villages of Romduol Cheung Phnom, Kirivan and Samrong Sen Chey 1.
“Two houses were completely destroyed, while 75 others lost their roofs. Fortunately, there were no injuries or deaths reported,” he said.
According to the committee, the repair of 45 houses was expected to be completed by March 6, with the remaining homes to be restored the following day.
Trapaing Tav commune police chief Pheng Huot told The Post that by March 6, his forces – with the support of the Anlong Veng district police – had undone the damage the storm had done.
“In our area, there was very little damage. One house collapsed, while two other homes and a school lost their roofs. The authorities had already repaired them all,” he said.
“Apart from the damage to buildings, 65-year-old Cheng Am suffered head injuries that required four stitches,” he added.
