Women’s ministry, BACK assess women’s defence services

The Ministry of Women’s Affairs and the Bar Association of the Kingdom of Cambodia (BAKC) convened an April 20 meeting to discuss providing defence services for impoverished women and girls who fall victim to violence.

In attendance were Minister of Women’s Affairs Ing Kantha Phavi and BAKC president Ly Chantola, who is a cooperative partner of the Cambodia National Council for Women, and several officials.

Coordinated by the general secretariat of the Cambodia National Council for Women, the meeting aimed to review the results of the council’s 2022 work and lay out plans for the coming year, while also assessing the provision of legal services for women and girls who fall victim to violence.

The meeting participants examined the cooperation of their partners in the implementation of the project and evaluated the quality of services that will be provided.

The discussion was open to input from law enforcement officers, and their valuable feedback led to the adjustment of several policies and guidelines.

Chantola described the meeting as an important opportunity to identify the strengths and challenges of the project.

“The meeting participants discussed measures that will expand and strengthen the legal defence services that we can offer to impoverished women and girls, and find justice for them more effectively,” he said.
