August 19: Sovan Narouth, 32, was shot and seriously wounded at 7:00 pm

by three robbers while he was riding a motorbike toward his house in Psah Depot 2

precinct. Police said the victim, who is a deputy chief of police from Cham-carmon,

was shot twice in his waist and chest, and sent to Calmette hospital immediately.

The robbers escaped with a motorbike.

August 19: Sao Vuthy, 22, a student, was robbed of his motorbike at 7:00 pm

while he was riding on Street 327 in Boeng Kak commune, Toul Kok district. Police

said the victim was beaten with a K-54 handgun and his head seriously injured by

the robbers. The robbers escaped safely.

August 19: Two kidnappers, Kao Try, 34, and Ly Seng, 39, were arrested by

Phnom Penh criminal police after they captured construction owner Lim Bo, 38, in

Kambol village, Ang Snoul district, Kandal. Police said the victim was captured on

May 23 and released one day later after $80,000 ransom was paid.

August 19: Mong Soeun, 37, a goods seller, was captured at 9:00 pm by two

kidnappers who had two AK-47s while he was preparing to sleep at his house in Sla

village, Memuth district, Kampong Cham. Police said the victim was released after

his family paid four million riels.

August 20: Sum Pheap, 19, was arrested for a murder committed a year ago in

Kampong Rotes commune, Steung Sen district, Kampong Thom. Police said the victim,

Kheng Song, 36, was stabbed once in her neck and died later when the criminal with

his four accomplices attempted to rob her money.

August 21: Ngoy Neat, 28, was killed and his body dropped in a ricefield in

Changwa village, O Raing Ov district, Kampong Cham. Police said the victim's face

suffered massive injuries, and his throat was cut. Two people, Soun Ton and Chhoeut

Khom, were suspected and escaped from their houses.

August 22: Fifteen people died and 20 others were injured when a truck full

of passengers slid off a rain-slicked road and rolled over in Kampong Speu province.

Provincial military police said the 2.5 ton Hundai truck packed with 35 people slid

out of control when the brakes failed while it was coming from a Buddhist ceremony.

August 22: The body of an unidentified Muslim girl was found at the forest

located in Khdol village, Russei Keo district. Police said the victim was chopped

in her head and her neck suffered massive injuries. The girl was raped before being

killed.

August 23: A 25-year-old vagrant died at 9:00 am in front of the Royal Palace

next to the gate of the Renakse hotel. Another vagrant said the victim, who came

from Koh Kong, died of AIDS after staying there three days. He was sent to Ou Nalom

pagoda for cremation.

August 23: Van Dany was robbed at 10:45 pm by three unidentified offenders

who took his motorbike while he was riding on Preah Norodom Blvd in Wat Phnom precinct.

Police said the victim, who is a medical worker, was beaten on his head with a K-54

handgun and seriously injured. The robbers escaped safely.

August 23: Seng Bunthea, 22, was arrested by police after he tried to kill

his mother with a knife. The incident happened in Changre Leu precinct, Mean Chey

district, Phnom Penh. Police said the criminal asked his mother for $1000 to give

to his girlfriend but she refused.

August 23: A nine-year-old girl was raped at 2:30 pm while she was playing

at the rapist's house in Prek Liab commune, Russei Keo district. Police said the

rapist, named Phim Sophal, 18, was arrested after the victim's family complained

to the court. The victim was sent to Calmette hospital after the incident.

August 24: Phoy Phean, 23, was arrested immediately after he robbed a moto-taxi

driver in Boeng Kak 1 precinct, Toul Kok district. Police said the victim was tied

behind his neck while he was carrying that robber, but he was released when the people

and policemen came to help him.

August 25: Kol Saroeun, 49, was found dead early in the morning on Street

271 in Tom Nop Teuk precinct, Steung Mean Chey commune, Mean Chey district. Police

said the victim, who is a private company truck driver, was drunk and fell down on

the land and died later. His motorbike was lost after the incident.

August 25: Men Chomroeun, 24, was robbed at 7:30 pm by three unidentified

men who took his motorbike while he was riding on Street 219 in Psah Doeum Kor precinct,

Toul Kok district. Police said that one of the three robbers was beaten to death

on the spot, and a robber's motorbike and one K-54 were seized.

August 26: Three former soldiers were arrested after they kidnapped many people

in Dombe district, Kampong Cham. The kidnappers are Khan Than, Ban Vutha, and Lai

Bunna. Provincial Deputy Commissioner Seng Sokim said these kidnappers captured five

people for whom they received about 800,000 riel ransom, then a second time they

captured 33 people and sent them into the forest.

August 28: Chhun Dany, 40, a member of Ponleu Pich Video, was shot at 8:00

pm and seriously wounded by two unidentified men while she was driving past Phnom

Penh municipal court toward Parady hotel. Police said the victim was shot once in

her chest and died after being sent to Calmette hospital. The motivation of the killing

is not known. The criminals escaped.

August 28: Twenty-four city cleaners were injured in an accident at 4:30 am

while they were in a Hyundai car, and it was hit by a truck in Teuk Laak 1 commune,

Toul Kok district. Police said the victims were sent to Calmette hospital immediately.

Eleven were seriously injured. The truck driver escaped.

August 28: Sim Rany, 25, a security-guard from Protex company, died in an

accident at 5:40 pm while he was riding "no hands" on a motorbike and hit

an electrical post. The incident happened on National Road 5 in Po Maingkul village

precinct, Punhea Leu district, Kandal.

August 29: Khun Khen, 38, was found dead at 10:00 am in his cousin's house

in Kampong Svay commune, Kean Svay district, Kandal. The family of the body said

the victim, who worked in the Ministry of Tele- Communication, was drunk before he

assassinated himself by drinking poison.

August 29: Pa Muth, 29, was captured at 10:00 pm by three kidnappers who demanded

three million riel ransom. The incident happened at his house in Teuk Chreuo village,

Dombe district, Kampong Cham. Sin Niem, 27, the victim's wife, told police her husband

was killed when she brought the money too late.

August 30: Bun Somdoeun, 32, was chopped and seriously injured by his wife

in a family quarrel in Kook Chombak village, Dongkor district. Police said the victim

was chopped twice in his head because his wife was jealous that he had a second wife.

The victim was sent to Preah Koamak hospital after the incident.

August 30: Noeu Rom, 33, was shot dead at midnight with a K-59 by an unidentified

man while she and her husband were sleeping in Steung Tauch village, Punhea Krek

district, Kampong Cham. Police said the victim was shot three times in her back and

died immediately. Cheat Vun, 37, the victim's husband, said the criminal attempted

to kill him too.
