Drunk-driving incident takes life over holiday

An alleged alcohol-related traffic accident in the capital’s Chamkarmon district killed one man, while another was seriously injured on Saturday. Police said that the men were riding motorbikes that crashed at high speeds after one of the men had allegedly been drinking heavily to celebrate Khmer New Year. ‘Unprovoked’ attack ends in stabbing

A man sustained multiple stab wounds in a brutal attack in Phnom Penh’s Dangkor district on Saturday. Police said they have arrested a 30-year-old man, who allegedly stabbed a stranger five times in an unprovoked frenzy at a New Year party, before fleeing the scene. Construction worker gunned down in capital

A shooting in Phnom Penh’s Russey Keo district on Saturday has sparked a manhunt, as the suspect remains at large. Officials said that a 26-year-old construction worker was seriously injured when he was shot while he walked in the street. His neighbours said he did not have enemies nor was he involved in criminal activity. Police hope the victim will be able to provide information when he awakes in the hospital.  Rasmei Kampuchea

Military police officer beat-up, three nabbed

Three men were arrested on Saturday in Phnom Penh’s Porsenchey district after they injured a military police officer in a fight. Police said that the suspects had joined villagers celebrating Khmer New Year but had a loud argument at the dance. The men reacted violently when the military police sought to intervene and one officer sustained minor injuries. Kampuchea Thmey

Alleged thief detained, accomplices escape

Police have made one arrest after a burglary in Kampot town on Saturday. The 17-year-old male suspect was detained after he was spotted running from the victim’s property with two accomplices. They had allegedly entered the house and stolen the owner’s belongings while he was busy with preparations for New Year. Police said the  suspect confessed that they had been stealing and he has been sent to court. Raksmei Kampuchea
