Moto-dop injured in surprise gas explosion

A 42-YEAR-OLD man was seriously injured in a gas explosion in Kandal’s Khsach Kandal district on Sunday. Police said that the moto-dop driver was waiting for a customer when a woman walked by with a small container of gas which exploded. The victim said it was old and it exploded without warning. Police arrested the woman who bought the gas but she was released after a market stall owner, who sold her the container, agreed to pay US$20 to the victim in compensation.

Attempted sale of bike ends in arrest

A 32-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for allegedly stealing a motorbike in Kandal province to sell in Svay Rieng province on Friday. Police said that they became suspicious of the man who was attempting to sell the motorbike in Svay Rieng’s Chantrea district without proper identification. Police then questioned him over a robbery in Kandal province and sent him to Kandal provincial court.

One killed in high speed traffic accident

A 22-YEAR-OLD man was killed in a traffic accident along National Road 5 in Battambang’s Mong Russei district on Sunday. Police said the victim drove his motorbike at an excessive speed before crashing into a car. Another car then ran him over, killing him instantly. Police have impounded the vehicles and detained the driver of the second car.

Suspect escapes in wood smuggling chase

FORESTRY administration police in Kampong Chhnang’s Boribor district attempted to arrest a suspected luxury wood smuggler on Saturday. Police said they became suspicious when a car driver refused to stop. A chase ensued before the suspect’s car got a flat tyre. He then escaped on foot. Police confiscated 13 pieces of wood from the car.

Boy detained over scrap metal theft

A 16-YEAR-OLD boy was arrested after he allegedly stole 60 pieces of scrap metal from a construction site in Phnom Penh’s Russei Keo district on Sunday while workers were having lunch. The boy has been sent to court.
