Truck driver flees after woman killed on road

An 18-year-old woman died instantly and her boyfriend was badly injured in a traffic accident on Tuesday afternoon in the capital’s Meanchey district. Police said the woman, a coffee vendor, was on a motorcycle with her boyfriend, 30, when they bumped into another motorcycle. The couple fell onto the road and a truck ran over the woman, crushing half of her body. Her boyfriend was critically injured and was taken to a nearby clinic. The truck driver fled before authorities arrived.

Attackers use swords to slice victims’ heads

Police are searching for three teenagers who hacked two men with swords early yesterday morning in the capital’s Dangkor district. The victims, 22 and 23, who work at a guesthouse in the capital, said they were returning home from a nightclub when the attackers followed them and attacked them with swords. They were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police identify body found in Poipet pond

The body of a 30-year-old woman was found floating in a pond in Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet town on Wednesday evening. A local spotted the body when drawing water from the pond. Upon investigating, police found that the woman was from another province and was known to locals as someone who wandered Poipet town. Police said the homeless woman had probably drowned while intoxicated.

Mystery as disabled man dies on bench

Mystery surrounds the death of a young disabled man whose body was found on a bench in Kampong Thom province’s Stung Sen district on Wednesday night. Police were working to determine the cause the man’s death, they said. A moto taxi driver had seen the man sitting on the bench in the afternoon and buying food and sleeping on the bench about two hours later. The taxi driver later tried to wake up the man but he was dead. Police called a number in the man’s phone and reached a woman who told them he was a food vendor at a market in Santuk district, they said.

Four years on, suspect nabbed for moto theft

Siem Reap police arrested a man on Wednesday who they say stole a motorcycle in Angkor Thom district four years ago. The suspect, 24, is accused of robbing a villager in 2007 and had been living in other provinces since then, police said. He was caught after returning home.
