Smuggler’s fake family doesn’t fool the cops

An alleged timber smuggler was arrested and charged in Kampong Thom after making a run for the border with more than 300 kg of rosewood across the province on Wednesday.

Seav Heng of Siem Reap was taking the 106 pieces of wood from Oddar Meanchey to sell in Kampong Cham in his Camry, according to Forestry Administration officer Khor Sochetra.

Heng’s fiancee and a woman paid to portray a mother with a baby sat in his car to throw off suspicion, a gambit that proved entirely ineffectual. Both women were allowed to go home.
