Tennis Cambodia has deputied Davis Cupper and head of junior development Phalkun Mam and junior program coach Long Chumnith to attend the International Tennis Federation’s Regional Level I coaching course to be held in Bangkok under the auspices of the Lawn Tennis Association of Thailand from Sunday until July 30.

The 12-day course will focus on imparting the necessary skills and knowledge for prospective coaches to successfully deal with beginners and intermediate level players.

At the end of course, every participant will be put through an on-court practical session that will be reviewed by a panel of ITF experts.

To be certified as an ITF level coach, the participants will also have to pass a written test.

“We are sending two of our most dedicated coaches to acquire better ITF qualification. It has always been our endeavour to ensure the all-round development of the game.

“We need qualified coaches to strengthen our rapidly expanding Junior development initiatives” secretary-general of Tennis Cambodia Tep Rithivit said.

Meanwhile, another Tennis Cambodia coach Doeum Samsocheaphearun, who was a member of the 2015 Davis Cup campaign in Malaysia, will accompany juniors Tep Timothy and Chheang Vannasith to Bangkok for the International Tennis Federation and Asian Tennis Federation’s training camp for players 16 and under to be held from July 20 to 31.

Earlier this year the Federation sent three players to the ITF 14 & Under Development Championships in Vietnam.

Two other junior players Delton Sophana Kim and Chheang Vannasak are heading to Vietnam to take part in the ITF Junior Circuit’s Grade 5 events to be held in Ho Chi Minh City (July 20-26) and Danang, ( July 27-August 2), Long Time coach Chea Poev will travel with Delton and Vannasak.

“Following their encouraging performances in Thailand a couple of weeks ago, it is logical to get them back on the circuit to help them gain ITF ranking points,” noted head of junior development Phalkun Mam.

“Delton was able to make it to within a match of earning a point, and that was a Grade 4 event.

“Usually the range of players, regarding rankings, will be a little lower in a Grade 5 event, so we’re hoping for the best,’’ he added.
